ADOLESCENT THERAPY
For I know the plans I have for you,” declare the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:29-30

Adolescent life at its core is learning how to become your own person. It’s a time of self exploration, understanding, making sense of the world, engaging with peers and figuring out likes and dislikes. In this world any human being can experience aspects of trauma, bullying, exposure to mature content, peer pressure, societal standards and norms that can distort a human’s view of self and of others. While adolescents go through “phases” and “stages” and have hormonal imbalances, development of self and identity can be ridiculed into something much smaller, invaluable and depersonalizing. Adolescent therapy is about discovering thought processes and cognitive behaviors that result in certain coping mechanisms whether they are healthy or unhealthy. It is also about understanding past life and current environment to make sense of who they are to understand how they want to or should interact with the world.

Some of the challenges that many adolescents encounter includes, but not limited to:

  • Parental separation

  • Poor familial communication

  • Change of social environment, such as school or familial related

  • Peer pressure

  • Peer societal norms

  • Lack of fitting in

  • Bullying

  • Emotional, sexual, and physical abuse

  • Drug use

  • Exposure to mature content

  • Navigating issues associated with online platforms and social media

As a pivotal part of neurodevelopment continues in each adolescent, therapy is imperative to ensure that negative cognitions do not solidify into adulthood and each pre-teen or teen will have the ability to release their emotions and feel heard in a safe environment, free from judgement or scrutiny. Our skilled and trained therapists can help empathize and care by offering these services:

  • Identity searching by exploration of values and dislikes.

  • Recognizing and challenging negative cognitive beliefs about oneself or others

  • Exploring emotions when it seems “numb” or “scary” to have emotions

  • Validating emotions while questioning any harmful actions

  • Family mediation

  • Looking deeper into anxious tendencies with healthy coping skills

  • Resolving depressive thoughts with emotional healing and care

  • To learn how to communicate better with peers and family
